Kanawai – Code of Conduct

Hui Lanakila strives to perpetuate the culture and tradition of Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Paddling with a commitment to a healthy spirit, mind, and body while respecting yourself and others.

The following points are the standard behavior expected at all times by our members:

  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion
  • Respect the ocean and the land
  • Respect the site, equipment,and other property by cleaning up and being careful in handling or paddling the canoes
  • Treat all paddlers, coaches and competitors with respect at all times; Cooperate with your coach and teammates
  • Paddle by the rules set by Hui Lanakila, OHCRA, and HCRA
  • Participate and support club activities, events and fundraisers
  • Verbal or physical abuse of other paddlers is unacceptable and grounds for suspension or expulsion
  • Participation in club practices and races while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is prohibited
  • Any and all use of club, equipment outside of organized practices, races or club functions is PROHIBITED without consent of the equipment chairman and at least one or more of the following: head coach, program coach, president or vice president
  • Talk to your coach if you have a question, complaint or concern. The Head Coach is available to hear all paddlers concerns
  • Keep all Hui Lanakila social media postings respectful, without the use of profanity
